Melissa Chang

Melissa Chang (Accredited in PR), Vice President of Buzzmaster, has more than 20 years’ experience in marketing and public relations, including work with Starr Seigle Communications, as the Marketing Director for Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties, and as the Marketing Director of Aloha Tower Marketplace. She is currently a freelance writer and independent marketing consultant, specializing in integrating the social media with traditional media to maximize clients’ marketing efforts. Melissa writes for Nonstophonolulu.com, Gayot.com, Fodors, Honolulu Magazine (real estate), and Edible Hawaiian Islands. Melissa is accredited by the Public Relations Society of America. She was named the 2006 Gregg W. Perry Public Relations Professional of the Year by the Hawai‘i  Chapter of PRSA and given the President’s Award in 2010. She was also named one of the “Top 20 Social Media Geeks in Honolulu” by Bytemarks and “Honolulu’s Best Twitter” by Honolulu Weekly.
 

As the online content editor for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Radley manages the homepage and social media presence of the state's largest daily newspaper. A graduate of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, he holds degrees in both journalism and computer technology.

Kevin Y. Kawamoto has long been interested in the social impact of technology on human communities. He was the technology studies manager at The Freedom Forum Media Studies Center in New York City and helped plan many events that brought educators, government officials and industry insiders together to talk about the latest developments in their respective sectors. His PhD dissertation at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he later became an assistant professor, explored the emerging digital media environment and became the basis for his first book published in 2002. He edited another book, “Digital Journalism: Emerging Media and the Changing Horizons of Journalism” (Rowman & Littlefield, 2003), which featured some of the leading experts in the field at the time. He has taught journalism and communication at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa as both an associate professor and a part-time lecturer and now studies the role of technology in aging, caregiving and wellness.

Patti Epler is the Editor of Civil Beat and Editor-in-Chief of HuffPost Hawai‘i, a partnership between Civil Beat and The Huffington Post that was launched in September 2013. Patti has been a reporter and editor since 1976. She has worked as a journalist in Hawai‘i, Alaska, Arizona and Washington state. She has won numerous awards for her work and was a member of the Anchorage Daily News team that won the 1989 Pulitzer Prize Gold Medal For Public Service for a series on alcoholism and self-destructive behavior among Alaska Natives. In 2008, Patti edited and directed that paper's series on the immigration enforcement practices of a colorful local sheriff, an effort that was awarded the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Local Reporting. She joined Civil Beat as deputy editor in September 2011 and was named Editor in April 2012.
 

Bill Dorman has been the News Director at Hawai‘i Public Radio since February 2011, where he also writes and presents the daily feature “The Asia Minute.” Previously he spent five years as Managing Editor of Asia Pacific Broadcast News for Bloomberg News, based in Tokyo and managing its staff and operations in Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney and Beijing. Earlier in his career he worked for CNN for 21 years in various locations, including New York, Washington, D.C., and Tokyo. He’s also done communications consulting work with CEOs and other senior executives in the United States and Asia and has been an adjunct professor of communications at Temple University Japan. Born in New York City and raised in Hershey, Pennsylvania, he has a master’s degree in Journalism from Columbia University and a BA in English from Dartmouth College.
